Uzbekistan National report
Date: 2020
The national report on Uzbekistan's WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) sector highlights critical challenges such as deteriorating infrastructure, financial constraints, and weak institutional capacities. Despite significant investments, including a total public borrowing of US$ 344.1 million from various sources, the water supply and sanitation infrastructure requires substantial improvements. The report emphasizes the importance of community-based schemes and public-private partnerships as innovative financial mechanisms. Projects like the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in the Ferghana Valley have shown success by empowering local communities and improving water access. The report calls for strategic planning, investment in research and innovation, modernization of WASH systems, and the adoption of climate-resilient technologies to ensure sustainable development in the sector by 2035.
