Monitoring systems for WASH
Date: April 2017
In this third episode of IRC's podcast series WASH Talk, host Jeroen Westerbeek and co-host Catarina Fonseca talk with Tom Slaymaker about the need to collect more complex monitoring data on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services to establish the actual situation on the ground. This is essential to make progress to reach universal access and leave no one behind (Sustainable Development Goal 6).
Tom Slaymaker is a Senior Statistics and Monitoring Specialist in the Data and Analytics Section at UNICEF and has over 15 years of experience working in Africa and Asia. UNICEF plays a leading role in supporting countries to collect and analyze data relating to inequalities in child survival, nutrition, health, education, protection and WASH. Tom currently manages the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation (JMP) and coordinates UNICEF's technical inputs to the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal indicators.
